Equity, Diversity, And Inclusion

Mockingbird Improv is committed to making improv accessible to all individuals through equitable, inclusive, restorative and anti-racist practices. We recognize the historic inequities inherent in comedic artforms, and strive to involve previously marginalized and underserved individuals who may not have traditionally had a voice in comedy. Mockingbird Improv is a strong ally for equitable representation among artists who belong to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people living with disabilities, and similarly marginalized communities.

Our Show Directors strive to maintain a diverse performer roster and are mindful of various barriers that may have prevented marginalized artists from previously receiving training or achieving the same amount of success as more privileged individuals have. Each member of the leadership and instructor team works to ensures that Mockingbird Improv always provides a welcoming environment to all our students, cast members, and patrons.

Our programs are geared towards the enhancement of our community and wellbeing of each individual. Our youth program gives children and teens an opportunity to boost their socio-emotional skills and increase confidence. Our adult classes create a safe space for adults to remember how to play and connect with each other.

We offer many opportunities to lower financial barriers to participate in our shows and classes and join our welcoming community, see below.

Our Vision for the Future

Since improv is a life-changing and restorative tool, our goal is to provide improv training free of cost to marginalized and underserved youth, adults, and seniors through our programs and partnering with community-based organizations. We believe all students should have access to these opportunities, and hope to offer our program in collaboration with schools and youth groups.

We are working toward being able to provide full inclusion scholarships in each of our class cycles to ensure that we are providing space for new artists to grow and establish themselves in our community.
