Mockingbird Improv Presents: Radio 47

Time Travel Tickets Going On Sale for Improvised Show, Radio ’47

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Diego, CA — August 31, 2025Radio ’47 is an immersive, improvised theater experience where the audience travels back in time to 1947 and becomes the studio audience for a live radio drama- although this one should have ‘em laughing! From the moment guests arrive, they are at radio station KBRD rubbing elbows with the cast and crew! Will they manage to get the show on the air without making mistakes or angering the sponsor? It's live improv (disguised as live radio broadcasting) so almost anything can happen! Opens Friday, October 10, 2025, at Mockingbird Improv in Liberty Station, NTC Arts District.

Co-Directed by Peter Jacques and Adam Raichel, Radio ’47 features an ensemble cast of 9 improvisers in costume, on mic and using props, with music inspired by jazz, swing, and some beloved western cowboy tunes. The twice-monthly show will also be live streamed.

“This show is different from anything we have done before at Mockingbird Improv” said Co-director and the show’s announcer, Peter Jacques. “The improv is done within a structured framework more like a traditional stage play with the actors in costumes and using props but the live, precarious nature will be just as unpredictable and it is immersive so the audience will experience it in 360 degrees. It is sort of ‘Tony and Tina’s Wedding’ Meets ‘The 1940s Radio Hour ‘

SET DESIGN FOR RADIO 47 - Mockingbird Improv

PROP CIGARETTE PACKS - there will be no actual smoking in the show but characters must have packs in their pockets and purses because it is 1947 and something like 40% of American adults smoked. Unlike usual improv shows, Radio 47 uses real props and does not include what’s known as “space object work”- just miming objects.
